Want to know what college students are reading?
The Chronicle of Higher Education recently surveyed dozens of colleges and universities across the country to compile this top 10 college reading list. You won’t find any heavy literature on this list that includes three books dripping with zombie and vampire antics.
I’d recommend reading No. 2 and No. 6. I’m on the fence about No. 10. As for Dan Brown’s latest book, does anybody really think this guy is a talented writer? Lots of women I know loved The Lovely Bones, but as a mother, I found it painful reading about the rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl.
Here is what college students are reading:
1. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
2. Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner
3. Nightlight: A Parody by the staff of The Harvard Lampoon
4. The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown
5. Are-You-There-Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea by Chelsea Handler
6. Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual by Michael Pollan
7. Dear John by Nicholas Sparks
8. Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer
9. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith
10. Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin
Lynn O’Shaughnessy is the author of The College Solution and she also writes a college blog for CBSMoneyWatch.
